COVID-19 forced many exercise enthusiasts to consider life outside the four walls of their local clubs. The reality is that some have found different ways to workout. But others are simply desperate to get back to the gym. If that sounds like you and you are lucky enough to have the opportunity, there are some things to keep in mind.

Remember These When Returning To The Gym After COVID-19

#1: Do Your Research:

Each club has set some different rules and policies that all members need to be aware of. So, before you head onto your next workout, you should ensure that you know these new rules and policies beforehand.

In most cases, you will be able to see al the different rules and policies on your club’s social media pages or website. In case you can’t find them, just phone them and ask. Things such as capacity limits, the need for registration, the entry policies for both exercisers and employees such as signs, symptoms, temperature scans, among others, as well as how they are handling the deep cleaning.

When someone from the gym can answer all these questions, this is a good, positive sign. Nevertheless, you should still pay extra attention, especially on the first day.

#2: Use A Mask:

Use A Mask

While wearing a mask isn’t obligatory in most places, we believe that it is always better to be safe than to be sorry. So, you should definitely consider wearing one. The truth is that no one knows how the virus spreads. But we know that maintaining social distancing is crucial. And when the rate of respiration is elevated, the risk of transmission increases.

So, by wearing a mask and ensuring that you don’t enter another’s air space are two things to consider. Notice that if you are doing high-intensity training, you should avoid using a mask. So, it may be a good opportunity to do it outdoors. In addition, in case you have a pre-existing respiratory or cardiovascular condition, you should take caution.

#3: Be Space And Time Conscious:

Be Space And Time Conscious

Since we are not free from COVID-19, it is always a good option to schedule your workouts when the gym is less crowded. Not only you will have more room for you as you will avoid being with others in the same room for a very long time.

The less time you spend in the gym, the less exposure you will have, so get in and get out. Be prepared to use minimal areas of the club and as few pieces of shared equipment as possible. Besides, you should also make sure to avoid natural congregation points (e.g., restrooms, front desk, outside studios).

#4: Sanitize:

Sanitize

We can’t stress enough the need to sanitize. While it is perfectly normal that the club will take care of the equipment and facility cleaning, you should always bring your own sanitizing as well.

Weight-lifting or surgical gloves, though not required, may give you peace of mind. If you need mats, bands, stretch straps, foam rollers, or similar high-use, hard-to-clean equipment, consider investing in your own to bring with you or use at home.
